2013 OFF TO A SUNNY START (IF YOU DON’T COUNT THE WEATHER).

Mother Nature has kept a lot of folks hunkered down or shoveling out for the past few months.  Hope you haven’t been among them.  Meanwhile, we’ve been busy little bees and we’re happy to share the buzz!

Our deep experience in marketing metalworking manufacturers is serving us well.  We were asked to create a new e-commerce site for Huot Manufacturing Company in 4th Quarter 2012.  Huot (that’s hyoo’-ӛtt) is a quality, full-service sheet metal fabrication company specializing in the manufacture of large to small cabinets, frames, panels, doors and specialized metal enclosures. Most often used for safe storage and transport of cutting tools and toolholders, Huot stock and custom metal cabinets protect significant investments for machining and production shops.  The new Huot e-commerce capabilities, scheduled to go live early March, will go a long way to reinforce their strong brand in markets throughout the U.S. and Western Europe.

In January, we also began working with Smiley Technologies, Inc. (STI), developing a new trade show booth and collateral. Our work with banking clients – so many we’ve lost count – goes back nearly three decades.  STI specializes in next-generation banking software and human solutions for community banks.  At the core of its services is its flagship software, SIBanking.  It’s a new single-source system that eliminates problems caused by “zombie software,” non-native programs from various sources stitched onto the original “body” as new banking services are added.  STI is focused on community banks in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio with $200MM to $2B in assets.

In February, Star Hydraulics joined the fold.  Star’s products are used in everything from submarines and oil drilling to mining equipment and lift vans for the disabled.  We will be helping them with updating their brand and producing new sell sheets and catalogs.

Also in early February, we began working with Sunset Retirement Communities.  We’ll be developing their new web site and supporting that with a strategically targeted print campaign, realigning their branding to reflect its amazing offerings.  Sunset Retirement Communities is a not-for-profit, long-term care provider with several locations in theToledo area.  Their senior living options span the spectrum – independent and assisted living to memory support and palliative care – informed by a unique heritage of nearly 150 years.

All in all, it’s been a phenomenally successful four months.  We certainly hope it’s been as good for you.  As spring approaches, we’re planning to be out there, spreading our promotional pollen.  Meanwhile, Like us on Facebook.  And if you know of a company that needs sound, strategic marketing with great creative, … (yeah, you know what’s coming) … give us a buzz.

IMTS 2012

We recently returned from the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago.  Not only did the show give us an opportunity to mingle with several of our clients, it showed us that the marketing materials we’re providing them can stand toe-to-toe against the “big boys” with mega marketing budgets.  We also came away with a renewed optimism that the manufacturing sector will continue to see strong growth.  Here’s a few interesting facts to back up our enthusiasm.

- The show, which ran September 10-15 at Chicago’s McCormick Place, included hosting exhibitors and visitors from 119 countries, covered 1.248 million square feet of exhibit space with 1,909 exhibiting companies.

- Total registration for the six-day event was 100,200, which is a 21.6% increase over 2010, marking the largest show-to-show increase ever for IMTS.

LYDIA’S GATE

We were thrilled to be able to create the logo for Lydia’s Gate, a faith-based emergency shelter in Northern Michigan that provides housing for adults and families who are temporarily without a place to stay.  The shelter is funded strictly by donations and plans to open in July.

WE’RE GOING TO NATIONALS!

The WoodHaven “A Log Home Among Castles” animated YouTube video received a Silver ADDY at the District 5 competition that was held last week.   Now, it’s off to Austin, Texas for the AAF National Competition which is held in June.  Keep your fingers crossed …

SILVER, GOLD AND JUDGE’S CHOICE

2012 ADDY Awards

In addition to a Silver ADDY for the Somerset Group logo, the Advertising Club of Toledo awarded Sheroian Associates a Gold ADDY and Judge’s Choice award for the WoodHaven “Ole’s Dream” animated video.  It’s wonderful clients and their continued confidence that allows us to create such rewarding work.

IT’S SMART! IT’S FRESH!

A recent ad for men’s grooming products put it succinctly in its headline:

“Men, look like you give a damn.”

Businesses need to spruce up periodically, too.  You have to keep things fresh to keep customers intrigued.  Let the world know who you are today.  That you’re growing with the times and changing to meet market needs.  (At the very least, it’s a way to get noticed.)

At Sheroian Associates, we make a point of following our own advice.  So we revisited our web site recently and gave it a new “coat of paint.”

Voila!  Take a look around.  It’s crisp and clean, lively with splashy new graphics and fresh samples from our portfolio.  Most important, it showcases the expanding skill sets that make us who we are today.

PROOFREADING SERVICE

The written word is powerful stuff. Encountering a daily barrage of text messages and abbreviated forms of communication, some say a valid understanding and use of proper English is a dying art. But never fear – help is just an e-mail message away! We are pleased to introduce our new proofreading service called proof+.

Public opinion about a company, product or service is easily swayed by the quality of how you present yourself. In most forms of communications, it all comes down to the value of the written word. With a solid foundation in the proper use of grammar, coupled with extensive backgrounds in English, advertising and/or journalism, our proofreaders are trained to recognize the copy styles commonly used in the advertising, marketing and communications industry. Projects can be exchanged, reviewed and corrected in paperless electronic format or other means. Full details, rates and procedures regarding the new service are available by visiting www.saproofplus.com or by calling 734-854-5501.

SILVER AND BRONZE ADDY HONORS

On Thursday, February 24, 2011, the Advertising Club of Toledo honored us with a Silver and Bronze ADDY Award during their annual program.

Projects for two different clients captured notable honors in their respective categories. We received a Silver ADDY for the “Plank Your Salmon” sales promotion kit for WoodHaven Log & Lumber. The grilling plank cooking kit contains “branded” natural cedar grilling planks repurposed from milling scraps, a custom-blended spice rub mixture, recipes and use instructions all packaged in a self-contained kit.

We also received a Bronze ADDY for the IMCO Carbide Tool 2010 Product Catalog. The 166-page, high-quality tool guide features color photographs, complete tool specifications and a color-coded ordering guide.

We value our clients and the ability to do award-winning work on their behalf. Creating awareness through creative, strategy-based marketing tactics helps our clients to succeed. We are honored that they have placed their trust in our services.

DANE’S LOG CABIN ADVENTURE

We have been working on brand strategy and marketing for northern Michigan-based WoodHaven Log & Lumber for 8 years. But when they casually mentioned an out-of-the-ordinary customer, we saw an opportunity to share WoodHaven’s unusual story – not through typical avenues using photography of beautiful log homes and poetic waxing about rustic timbers – but through humor and the viral potential of the internet.

The idea for a viral video came out of a conversation about a customer who found WoodHaven on the internet and came all the way from Denmark to inspect and purchase the products. We thought that was a story worth sharing.

So our creative team went into action and crafted a humorous narrative retelling the story through animation. The result is “Log Siding: A Log Home Among Castles” – a 2-1/2 minute animated video created specifically for YouTube. The video is peppered with comedic moments but still conveys a few key marketing messages. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lmTdvyB_0o

The video fits right into WoodHaven’s brand strategy. Choosing log siding for a home is a very personal process. WoodHaven is a friendly, folksy company and they build strong personal relationships with their customers: enough to cross an ocean for just the right products.
